Engineering
Sam Bell, director and head engineer of KYS has extensive engineering experience. He graduated in 1999 from Unitec in Auckland after studying Marine Engineering and Boat Building.
Sam has spent 8 years in the Super Yacht Industry and is well acquainted with both classic and modern boats and their systems. He has his Y3 Engineering Ticket from the MCA in England. Sam was engineer aboard Mariette of 1915 for 5 years before becoming captain and then transferring to the build team of The Maltese Falcon. He worked in Turkey on the build for a year before becoming third engineer and IT specialist onboard.
In the past year, Sam has acted as Chief Engineer and First Mate aboard SY Blue Gold during charter and delivery. He has also worked aboard SY Squall as Engineer during two yard periods.
KYS has many contacts for sourcing equipment and spares and we have good skill on shipboard repairs and trouble shooting. We can weld and are happy to use our workshop or come onsite. We can do rig checks and can work not only on engines but on all systems on boats.
